Cruise Travel Insurance
We know what you're thinking, or more
specifically, what you're not thinking. You've purchased your
cruise tickets and can't wait for a relaxing vacation. The last
thing on your mind at this point is cruise travel insurance.
But why not? The cruise you are about to take, no matter how
good of a discount you were able to find, still wasn't cheap.
And the peace of mind you'll have in knowing you are covered is
well worth the cost. You insure your home and you insure your
car, and it makes sense to insure your happiness
too.
But what you don't want to do is buy the first cruise travel
insurance package that you run across. Take a little time and
look carefully at several policies. Make sure you get the
coverage you need. And always in the back of your mind remember
the old saying of buyer beware. Ask questions, and lots of
them. If the agent can't make everything crystal clear, then
look elsewhere. We're not suggesting all insurers are simply
trying to get you money. But certainly some are, and are only
vaguely aware of what it is they are selling.
Another old saying to remember is you get what you pay for.
This is frequently true in the insurance industry. You'll
probably be able to find good discounts, but they come at a
cost. You may not get the coverage you need. You need to find a
policy that fits both your lifestyle and your budget. Your
travel agent is a great resource here. They can frequently
point you in the right direction in finding both a good
insurance company and give you tips on what kind of policy you
might need.
And if you booked your trip through a travel agent,
oftentimes the package will include insurance also. Get quotes
on the different packages, your agent is there to help you be
sure about whatever you decide. Also check online. You'll find
many travel websites have forums filled with frequent
travelers, many of whom have been through the insurance
process. They will no doubt be happy to steer you in the right
direction and also let you know what companies to avoid.
A comprehensive insurance plan is best, but it will also be
the most expensive. On the plus side, this plan will cover just
about anything. You can also get policies that cover a much
smaller set of conditions. These will cost less, but oftentimes
these policies are close to worthless. Check the terms
carefully. They might be so restrictive that you may not be
covered if something different did happen.
Chances are this cruise is a dream vacation. You may have
saved for months or longer to go. But it's always good to be
ready for the unexpected by making sure you have cruise travel
insurance before taking your trip.
